An island stay with a dated closure notice
The Sunset Beach Resort Kho Khao Island is at 79 Moo 4, Koh Kho Khao, near Takua Pa. It requires an island crossing rather than an arrival in mainland Khao Lak centre. Beach Side and Pool View villas are separate categories, with air conditioning, refrigerators, balconies and bathing facilities listed.
The published notice displayed on Planet of Hotels lists pool closures from 1 May through 31 October 2026. Do not plan a stay during that period on the assumption of pool use, and confirm reopening for later dates. A Pool View room name or photograph does not establish that the pool is operating.
Earlier guest praise and upkeep concerns
Ian’s 13 February 2026 review liked a clean Beach View Villa, pier pickup, helpful staff and an isolated-feeling beach, but found breakfast basic and other dining a beach walk away. Larissa, reviewing on 10 March, appreciated food, cleaning and staff but reported older furniture, ants and limited beach loungers. Jon’s 24 March account liked the location but described poor shower drainage.
Yacov’s separate Expedia review dated 3 April 2025 likewise praised location and staff while reporting broken tiles and deteriorated timber fittings. These individual reports make current villa condition worth establishing.
Arrange the crossing and meals
Confirm island arrival, any pier pickup and the current restaurant schedule, rather than infer them from an earlier visit. The beach setting may suit a quieter stay, provided the actual villa, meal plan and seasonal facilities meet the requirements of your dates.
