A working landscape in Mae Rim
Four Seasons Resort Chiang Mai is on Mae Rim–Samoeng Old Road, Mae Rim, north of Chiang Mai city. Its official facts describe thirty-two acres of landscaped gardens and rice terraces, two small lakes, ponds and waterfalls, with a working rice farm and water buffalo. The layout evokes a Lanna-style Thai village rather than a conventional urban hotel block.
The published accommodation total is 98: 64 pavilions, twelve pool villas and 22 residence rentals. Those categories matter as much as the brand name. A pavilion offers a different amount of space and privacy from a pool villa or residence. The countryside is a principal reason to choose the resort, but it also changes the practicalities of days spent exploring the city.
Upper Rice Terrace Pavilion: height and a wider outlook
The official Upper Rice Terrace Pavilion description gives seventy square metres in the centre of the resort, with king or twin beds and provision for one rollaway or crib. Maximum occupancy is three adults, or two adults and one child. Confirm the actual extra-bed arrangement and any charges when booking beyond two.
Its upper-level position gives a panoramic outlook over the working rice paddies and Suthep mountain range. High vaulted ceilings and private outdoor living space distinguish the experience. For travellers who want to sit outside looking across the landscape, that elevation may be more meaningful than an upgrade based on interior area alone. Ask about the access route if stairs affect your choice.

Lower Rice Terrace Pavilion: closer to the fields
The Rice Terrace Pavilion is also seventy square metres with the same listed bed options and occupancy. Its lower-floor outlook is over the rice paddies, with an outdoor sala and Thai-style daybed. Rather than buying more floor space, choosing between the upper and lower categories changes how the outdoor living area relates to the grounds.
The room description includes silk and cotton furnishings, local decorative objects and paintings. The full bathroom has a soaking tub, separate shower and double vanity. Wi-Fi and twice-daily housekeeping are listed. These common conveniences provide a baseline; the level and outlook remain the more useful comparison between the two rice-terrace offers.
Garden pavilions and pools are separate choices
The official accommodation collection also includes Garden Pavilion and Upper Garden Pavilion categories. A garden designation should not be assumed to provide the same rice-field panorama as the named rice-terrace rooms. Pool villas and the residence collection are separate accommodation choices, so a private pool should not be inferred from a pavilion booking.
The collection lists a Pool Villa with a king bed for two adults and substantial private indoor and outdoor space. For a larger group, compare a residence’s bedrooms and occupancy rather than assume several people can be added to any pavilion. The correct starting point is how the party intends to live in the accommodation.
For example, the collection describes a 244-square-metre Family Residence for two adults and two children aged twelve or younger, with a Residential Assistant. That is a distinct family accommodation offer, rather than evidence that the same occupancy or assistance applies to an ordinary pavilion reservation.
Recent guests admire the grounds but differ on comfort
Xiaoruixiao’s Trip.com review dated 27 August 2026 praised the rice-field greenery, architecture, courtyards and pool but found service procedural, without the orientation or personal attention expected. A pool-villa guest reviewing on 24 September valued the private pool, water features, natural setting and helpful staff.
Fenvvq’s 2 May 2026 account liked the landscape and breakfast but found the distance from town inconvenient, bedding uncomfortable, the room dated and an air-conditioning vent directed towards the bed. These are individual experiences, not a finding about all rooms. They reinforce the value of choosing the actual accommodation and planning city journeys, rather than assuming landscape and comfort are the same decision.
